BOOK CLUB
In July 2023 we launched our first Book Club. It filled up straight away, so we started a second, which is now also full. If you could like to join the waiting list, please drop us an email to heronandwillow@gmail.com .
We aim to journey around the shop’s various genres and mediums and try and offer something different and challenging (but in a nice way!) to the group. We have an open discussion about the books, and then anonymously score them out of ten at the end and I take an average.
The books we have read / are reading from the most recent:
The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde / Tress Of The Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson / Runaway by Alice Munro / Pink Slime by Fernanda Trias / Murder In The Family by Cara Hunter / Between Wolf and Dog by Kristina Gorcheva-Newberry / Sombrero Fallout by Richard Brautigan / Biography of X by Catherine Lacey / Pretty Young Rebel by Flora Fraser / Fun Home by Alison Bechdel / Maus by Art Spiegleman / Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver / A Manual For Cleaning Women by Lucia Berlin / Diary Of A Void by Emi Yagi / Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov / Appliance by J.O. Morgan / Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung / The Summer Book by Tove Jansson / The Gallows Pole by Benjamin Myers / From A Mountain In Tibet by Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche / A Study In Obedience by Sarah Bernstein .
WRITING CLUB
Our Writing group currently meets once a month, on the first Thursday of the month in the evening. It is a group for all abilities and with previous experience or not. The group is fairly new and is deciding what it wants to be, but at a basic level it is intended as a support and encouragement network for those wishing to write more and potentially an avenue for creative projects in the future.
In January 2024 we released a zine called The Book Of Jed, which included work from our writing group.
